BIOGRAPHY
I'm a Neo Pop-Art painter, author and illustrator. Born in Germany, educated in the United States and graduated in art and illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
Having a passion for languages, I travelled to more than sixty countries, lived a few years in Honduras and Japan, and visited over a thousand cities, of which I have painted over two hundred. My art work has been featured in over one hundred magazine and newspaper articles in Germany, USA, and Mexico (TV documentaries available above.)
During my studies in California in the 90s, I took my first children’s book illustration class. My teacher inspired me to start writing and not just illustrating. The result was a picture book called Painting Brian, which led to the Magora series. I began taking classes in children's literature and worked with some incredible editors. Over a period of twenty years, I developed the magical world Magora based on places I have visited, people I have met, and things I have learned through my studies in acting, cultural Anthropology, and linguistics.
In 2016 the first book of the Magora series came out on Amazon. To my surprise, it became a success and ranked for five days as the No.1 children's book with over 35.000 downloads. Since then, the first three book in the series have won 15 literary awards.
This inspired me to continue writing, and so I completed a young adult novel based on one of my passions: languages. Having studied Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, French, Garifuna, and Quiche I always wondered how languages die out. In the The Language Thieves I came up with a solution to this dilemma. The novel was published on Amazon in 2018 and won the Literary Classics Silver Award for Best Young Adult Science-fiction.
With a good knowledge of Spanish I started working with a translator on a Spanish edition of Magora and finished it in 2018. At the same time I completed the German translation myself. At the end of 2018 I began working with a translator in China on a Mandarin version. This will be a longer journey. Stay tuned!
I have two more books in the planning stage and lots of ideas. If you want to stay updated, please sign up to my newsletter here, and you will get monthly updates on my projects.
